Anything But God

Yesterday, I watched the film “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” which is a documentary about the occupational persecution and ostracizing that exists in Academia toward college professors who dare to challenge the Darwinian model of  Biology, or even so much as suggest that “Intelligent Design” might be a valid  scientific hypothesis worth consideration. The movie does not really delve into the arguments for or against either side of the “debate”, but rather serves as an expose of the fate of those who fail to “toe the party line.” The purpose of the film is to uncover the suppression that exists in institutes of higher learning against those who are so presumptuous as to question the “conventional wisdom” of Darwinism and all of its unanswered problems, suggesting that the truth might be found elsewhere.

What is revealed in this movie, for me at least, is something that many theists have suspected for quite some time: Darwinism is in and of itself a “religion.” gives the following definition for the term “religion”:

“a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhumanagency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conductof human affairs.” (1)

Darwinism ceases to be science and becomes religion when its ideas are extrapolated to interpret the origins of life. As is pointed out in “Expelled”, Darwin did not simply write a book defining what he had observed scientifically, which may have illuminated the mechanism of intra-special changes, he wrote a book called the “ORIGIN of the Species.” He went beyond the realm of the observable and entered into the realm of pure speculation. Such practice is certainly acceptable for scientific inquiry, such would even define “hypothesis” or “theory.” But when the unproven hypothesis or speculation is elevated to the level of that which is deemed conclusively proven, when the “theory” is canonized as “unquestionable truth”, when an establishment is set in place which governs the behavior of individuals or, as the definition puts it: “a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs”, when devotion and ritual observance accompanies the dispersion of the theory to the uninitiated (such as is the case in institutions where Darwinism is rigidly taught; one professor in the film describes his own indoctrination into Evolutionary theory to the intended exclusion of all other religious belief), this fulfills the parameters of a religion.

What is interesting to note is the utterly absurd suggestions that zealous Darwinists will make in order to explain the impetus that brought about life on Earth. Some of these ideas are explored a little in “Expelled.” The irony cannot be lost on the objective viewer as the same individuals who are calling traditional belief in God “ignorant”, “stupid”, “foolish”, etc. in the interviews, are later speaking with great sincerity over the possibility that life began on Earth from protein-rich seeds planted here in time immemorial by alien life forms (the theory of “Panspermia”). Fortunately for the professors making the suggestion, Ben Stein (the movie’s host) did not ask the obvious “begged” question of how in turn the alien life forms originated. Another scholar described with equal conviction the notion that proteins on the primitive Earth “hitch-hiked” on the backs of crystals in order to come together and form the building block amino acids of which all life is composed. As long as your theory precludes the concept of an intelligent, loving God, it seems all ideas are fair game, regardless of how ridiculous.

Finally, one of the most intriguing segments of the entire movie for me was the interview toward the end between Ben Stein and famed atheist Prof. Richard Dawkins. Author of the bestseller, “The God Delusion”, Dawkins goes beyond defending Darwinism from attacks by theists to making his own attacks against theism and organized religion as a whole. Prof. Dawkins read his own words of vitriol from his book concerning the God of the Bible with great panache during the interview, his smug, self-congatulatory arrogance thinly veiled. But as Stein pressed him as to exactly how sure he was that God does not exist, as Stein repeated his question again and again to clarify Dawkin’s complete atheism — forcing Dawkins to reiterate in his own words his absolute certainty that there is zero possibility for God’s existence– his discomfort and hesitation became quite obvious as his formerly confident articulation was reduced to a stammering befuddlement.

We should make no mistake, nor should there exist any pretense otherwise, that Darwinism is a religion. Its precepts are accepted on faith, in spite of abundant contradictory evidence, and dissension against it is met with hostile retribution. When its implications are carried out to their logical end, the value of life, especially human life, is reduced to the point of utter meaninglessness and the individual’s merits are measured in their ability to contribute to society as a whole. Consequently, the evils of abortion, euthanasia, eugenics, and genocide are seen as nothing more than mankind’s assistance of the natural, Evolutionary process. It is no wonder that Darwinism’s proponents feel threatened by the notion of a Personal, loving God to whom all men are morally accountable. Therefore, their agenda is to completely eradicate any reminder of God’s existence as they attempt to redefine reality by embracing anything else. Anything, that is, but God.

  1. Loren,

The evolutionary theories you described are unbelievable and laughable….. When I consider all the intricacies of all of nature, the intelligence and wisdom involved are way beyond any human ability to conceive….. It is wonderful to be able to see and appreciate God’s loving power at work in all of creation….. The intelligent design and functioning of one atom is more than awesome — let alone all there is in the universe….. Thank you for sharing this.

    1. Margaret,

It’s funny that you mention the design and intricacy of even a single atom. When Darwin first advanced his theories, everyone in the scientific community believed that a single living cell was basically just a gelatinous, gooey little blob. In the movie I wrote about here, Ben Stein asks some of the molecular biologists about how our understanding of the complexity of a single living cell has changed since 1859: “If Darwin understood a single cell to be like say, a Buick, what would you compare our understanding of it to be today?”, Stein asked. The unhesitating responses were “a galaxy”, “a supercomputer”, etc.

One of the major problems challenging Darwinism is that, when it was originally theorized, our understanding of a single cell was so primitive that the probability of what we thought were simple little globs of proteins coming together on their own didn’t seem too far-fetched. Now, however, it seems patently absurd.

  2. According to His Holiness Maharaj Sahab (1861-1907), the third Revered Spiritual Head of Radhasoami Faith has described in His book ‘Discourses on Radhasoami Faith’ “that the source of spirit is the true Supreme Being. Whatever forms we find in creation have received their impress from the infinite form first manifested by the Supreme Being, as form is nothing but the arrangement into which energy resolves anything, and the prime energy emanated from the Supreme Being”. I am convinced that this prime energy is Gravitation Force.
Maharaj Sahab further writes in this book, “that the solar systems are travelling in space round Brahamand, and that the Brahmand, too, is making a similar revolution round the spiritual region. During the course of these revolutions, the earth and the solar systems often come near such creations which possess fauna (including man) and flora differing to some extent from our own fauna and flora. The conjunction of the above description often leads to some affinity between the subtler portion of our system and of those of the creations we have approached. Many new forms of life are often manifested on our earth, and their remains are often dug up as fossils of the species not to be found on this earth.
It is now an established fact that seeds of life i.e. DNA, biological cells spread on planets through comets. Panspermia Theory is a confirmed fact. Life spreads in the universe through comets. Dr. Louis, Dr. Jayant Vishnu Narlikar (renowned astrophysicist) and other scientists are working in this area. Professor Nalin Chandra Vikramsinghe, Director, Cardiff Centre for Astrobiology, London is also helping in this work.

    1. Anirudh,

Thank you so much for reading this post and taking the time to share your comments!

I believe that you would agree that a great deal of the comments that you have written here are metaphysical in nature and, as such, would do little but confirm the assertion in my post of the inter-connection between “scientific” dogma and a personal philosophical worldview. You write that you are “convinced” that Gravitational force is the impetus behind the diversity of life, to which I must respectfully inquire: based upon what? You have quoted one Maharaj Sahab (who you admittedly cite as a religious authority rather than a scientific), but I am certain that you are aware that these opinions are seen as on the fringe even within the scientific community. My suggestion is that perhaps you have embraced this ideology, not based upon evidential motivation, but rather upon your reverence and admiration toward the one who advanced it. In other words, it seems that you are interpreting evidence based upon your pre-conceived worldview rather than adapting your worldview in light of the evidence. Such approach is exactly what the Darwinists do in their own practice of “scientific” religiosity.

“It is now an established fact that seeds of life i.e. DNA, biological cells spread on planets through comets. Panspermia Theory is a confirmed fact.”

May I suggest that your enthusiasm for this theory may be a little premature. To quote a website that is itself designed to advance Panspermia:

“The case for Cosmic Ancestry is not yet proven, of course. At this point the best reason to notice it is that the mainstream darwinian paradigm does not satisfactorily account for sustained evolutionary progress and the origin of life on Earth.” (taken from

Apparently, the only thing propping up this fantastic hypothesis is the recognition of the failure of the Darwinian paradigm. It seems that some scientists within the disciplines of Astronomy, Cosmology, and Astrophysics are desperately seeking a competing explanation to account for the failures of Darwinism. I have not come across any of the writings of those involved in this research, however, stating that it is anything but a theory. It seems, sir, that you may be alone in asserting that Panspermia is a proven fact.

Thanks again for reading this post and sharing your comments.

      In Christ,

  3. According to His Holiness Maharaj Sahab (1861-1907), the 3rd Spiritual Head of Radha Soami Faith, “during satyayuga,……… consequence of their greater spirituality and of the high purity of their heart, had no difficulty in getting access at times into the astral planes and holding communion with the departed spirits.” (Source: Discourses on Radhasoami Faith). Greater Spirituality as mentioned above is linked to the size of pineal gland. In Satyauga pineal gland was highly developed but in Kaliyuga the pineal gland is a rudimentary (undeveloped) organ. This is downward evolution of humankind. We should ascertain the period taken from highly developed pineal gland to undeveloped pineal gland. This will determine the Age of Human Existence on this Earth Planet. Other arguments, as I think, will not help much.

  4. I have heard the “teachings” that life was planted here by aliens and also that life hitch-hiked on some sort of something. As you said, it’s a religion.

Like you pointed out, there is nothing wrong with scientific theory — but that’s all it is. Theory is not fact. In this case, it is taught as fact and people base their beliefs on theory. When I was in high school, we were taught the theory of evolution as if it were fact. I remember being at the zoo one time and looking at the primates and feeling sorry for them that they didn’t get to be humans but instead somehow remained monkeys and ended up in cages while us humans were lucky enough to morph into humans.

People want to accept anything even as ludicrous as it is but reject the real truth and that is we are accountable to the one Creator of all that there is. Oh that their eyes and ears could be opened to the truth.

    1. “People want to accept anything even as ludicrous as it is but reject the real truth and that is we are accountable to the one Creator of all that there is.”

And that’s just it. To concede the existence of a Supernatural, Eternal God is to, by definition, admit that there is a Higher Power to which we are accountable. When we compare the incredible accounts of wild speculation that comprise most atheistic models of human origin with the rational and orderly account given in Scripture, it quickly becomes apparent that it is definitely NOT an intellectual barrier that prevents the acceptance of Creationism, but a moral.

To conclude that Darwinism, Panspermia, Abiogenesis, or any of the other atheistic theories is more rational than Biblical Creationism is to practice a self-delusion of the rankest order. If one honestly considers all of the observable data, I believe that logic would force them to conclude that an Intelligent Force is behind the existence of life. Darwinism, as has been said before, is simply a “Fairy Tale for grown-ups.” That this “fairy tale” is being perpetrated on young children as a “fact” is a despicable atrocity.

  5. An article of Shri Nand Kishore Kapoor, Punarjanm Shodh Sansthan, Faridabad, India was published in a Sunday Supplement of ‘Aj’ (Hindi News Paper) sometimes during the year 2000. In this article the author writes the past life description by a girl during hypnosis. She told that in her previous life a dinosaur is running after her and she was running away to hide herself in a cave. Based on this I am now writing my comments in Blogs on Biological Evolution that humans and dinosaurs coexisted. Now a large number of Texans are also believing this as is evident from the following Blog. It will not be out of the context to mention that as per Hindu Mythology Lord Rama was born about 10 million years ago.

Texans Weigh God and Biological History

    February 17, 2010

    in Election 2010, Politics

Texas Tribune: Nearly a third of Texans believe humans and dinosaurs roamed the earth at the same time, and more than half disagree with the theory that humans developed from earlier species of animals, according to the University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll.

The differences in beliefs about evolution and the length of time that living things have existed on earth are reflected in the political and religious preference of our respondents, who were asked four questions about biological history and God:
    • 38 percent said human beings developed over millions of years with God guiding the process and another 12 percent said that development happened without God having any part of the process. Another 38 percent agreed with the statement “God created human beings pretty much in their present form about 10,000 years ago.”
    • Asked about the origin and development of life on earth without injecting humans into the discussion, and 53 percent said it evolved over time, “with a guiding hand from God.” They were joined by 15 percent who agreed on the evolution part, but “with no guidance from God.” About a fifth — 22 percent — said life has existed in its present form since the beginning of time.
    • Most of the Texans in the survey — 51 percent — disagree with the statement, “human beings, as we know them today, developed from earlier species of animals.” Thirty-five percent agreed with that statement, and 15 percent said they don’t know.
    • Did humans live at the same time as the dinosaurs? Three in ten Texas voters agree with that statement; 41 percent disagree, and 30 percent don’t know.

  6. Now I give Radhasoami Faith view of Creation Theory. In Sar Bachan (Poetry) composed by His Holiness Soamiji Maharaj the August Founder of Radhasoami Faith the details of creation and dissolution has been described very scientifically. It is written in this Holy Book: Only He Himself (Supreme Father)and none else was there. There issued forth a great current of spirituality, love and grace (In scientific terminology we may call this current as gravitational wave). This is called His Mauj (Divine Ordainment). This was the first manifestation of Supreme Being. This Divine Ordainment brought into being three regions, viz., Agam, Alakh, and Satnam of eternal bliss. Then a current emerged with a powerful sound. It brought forth the creation of seven Surats or currents of various shades and colours (in scientific terminology we may call it electromagnetic waves). Here the true Jaman or coagulant was given (in scientific terminology this coagulant may be called as weak nuclear force and strong nuclear force). Surats, among themselves, brought the creation into being.

These currents descended down further and brought the whole universe/multi verse into being i.e. black holes, galaxies etc. were born.

    1. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)

Thanks, Anirudh, for sharing these thoughts. With all due respect, I must admit that I find the Bible’s description much more believable 🙂

  7. In Bible it is written : In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God. This is more convincing and scientific. Do you agree, Dear Loren? Thanks for your kind words.

    1. “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)

That these words would satisfy the “scientific” or intellectual musings of any particular individual is, I would suppose, entirely dependent on the presence or absence of necessary faith within the heart of that individual. For me, Anirudh, they are most convincing and of inestimable comfort.

The Message of the Bible is not one designed to gratify the scholastic ponderings of a world which has determinedly rejected God and precluded His existence and interest in the affairs of mankind from the spectrum of possibility. The Message of the Bible is about a Person, the Son of God, Jesus Christ. The purpose for the introduction in the Gospels of God in the flesh, the ever-lasting Lord of Heaven eternally existing in Jesus Christ, is not to satisfy our intellectual curiosities, but to present us with a Savior Who came to redeem us from our sins. The Word of God was not given to us haphazardly sprinkled with esoteric, ambiguous clues intended to be patchworked together that man might peer into the mysteries of his own origins and surmise the details of the specific apparatus employed in the process of his creation. Nor was it intended to be employed as a spoke in the wheel of some “greater” Divine revelation, ascertained by means of alternative belief systems. As the Apostle John stated in the very book of the Bible you quoted: “But these [the things written in this book] are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.” (John 20:31).

The Bible gives a far more intriguing and pertinent revelation than one pertaining to electro-magnetic waves, energy fields, and ancient cosmology. It provides a much deeper revelation into the very heart of man and gives the answers to the problems that plague us and have beguiled us since time immemorial. The Bible is about our dire need for a Savior and the gracious provision of one by God Almighty in the Person of Jesus Christ.

  8. Mr. Anirudh Kumar Satsangi, is an Idiot. Internet is full of his copy-paste material in all blogs. He believes that he’s a real genius and debates around with people.

He thinks he is wiser than Newton, Einstein and Stephen Hawkings, bigger than any religion. He keeps commenting even when no one is listening to him.

May GOD show mercy on him and grant him Wisdom!

    1. Thanks for reading this and taking the time to share your comments.

I felt that Mr. Satsangi’s comments were relevant to this particular post and have left them up for anyone who wishes to read them. I don’t know anything about the man or what his intentions are, but I do realize that he appears to be promoting a pre-conceived Cosmological theory that seems to blend fringe “science” with Hindu philosophy. I am not interested in debating such topics as my purposes here are to teach about the Bible and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Mr. Satsangi is entitled to his opinions and, as his comments were respectful and appropriate, I have allowed them to remain posted. Ironically, I feel that his comments were actually illustrative of the points I attempted to make in this article.

I thank you again for visiting and sincerely hope that you do so again in the future. Mr. Satsangi is welcome to visit again anytime, as well.

      In Christ,

  9. Thank you very much dear Mr. Loren for your very kind words. I have no intention of promoting Hinduism only. I am solely working for the synthesis of religion and science. I have been brought up in Hindu culture so it has great influence on my thought process. I know little about others so I take great precaution while including quotes from other religious point of view in my comments. However, I have great respect and reverence for all of them. I will soon come up with my comments relevant to your excellent blog. Thank you once again and best wishes.

  10. Modus Operandi of Radhasoami Faith View of Creation – Part II
Here the true Jaman (coagulant) was given. The spirituality coagulated as it were, and Surats (spirit entities), among themselves, brought the creation into being. Thereafter, another Jaman (coagulant) was given. Regions from Agam Lok (Inaccessible Region) to Sat Lok (True Region) were created during the first creational process. That creation is true. That region is eternal. There is no trace of evil and suffering. This was the creation for many Yugas and ages. Then there appeared a dark coloured current
That current appeared like a dark coloured stone set in a white one and was absorbed in the Darshan of True Being. Then there appeared two Kalas i.e. currents (viz. Niranjan and Jyoti) and they together evolved the creation of five Tattwas (elements) four Khans (species, categories of life) and three Gunas (qualities). The three Gunas (qualities) brought about the expansion and proliferation . They created Rishis and Munis (sages and holy men), gods and godly human beings and demons. Egotism then increased much. Niranjan separated himself from the rest, putting the burden of looking after the creation on them. Nobody could know of Niranjan. Even the Vedas referred to Him as Neti Neti (Not this, Not this). They did not get Darshan (Vision) of Niranjan. They made conjectures. Then how can anybody have knowledge of Sat Purush (True Being), Source of Niranjan and all that exists.

Scientifically here Jyoti represent three Fundamental Forces of Quantum Mechanics i.e. electromagnetic force, weak nuclear force and strong nuclear force. NIRANJAN is the fourth Fundamental Force i.e. Gravitation Force. Scientific explanation follows in support of my views.

  11. Einstein struggled and failed to formulate this theory, but it has already been shown that at high enough energies electromagnetism and the weak force are the same force known as the electroweak force. It is theorized that if energies are increased even further and neutrinos acquire mass, which has now been fully documented, all the known forces will reduce to the same force thus providing the basis for the Grand Unified Theory. This high energy level existed only during the very early expansion of the Universe known as the Planck Epoch which existed up to 10 to the negative 43rd seconds after the Big Bang where the four fundamental forces – electromagnetism, weak nuclear force, strong nuclear force and gravitation – all had the same strength. After that point the energy level decreased and gravity separated from the other 3 fundamental forces and with condensation of elementary particles (quarks, leptons, and gauge bosons) into matter formed the so-called Standard Model of today’s Universe.
